About me

This website is currently in development. Some of the content may not be finished or working

Hi, my name is Patrik Nagy and I am a first grade high school student at SPŠE Karola Adlera in Bratislava.

My hobbies include:

  • Electonics
  • HAM Radio
  • Shortwave Listening [SWL]
  • Programming

Coding

I got into programming when I was around 8 years old, and my first “programming language” was of course HTML (and css). Between years 2018 - 2023, I attended a IT Step Academy, where I learned how to code in Python (and also many popular libraries like NumPY, Pandas, MatPlotLib etc.), Javascript, Design (UI/UX), 3D Work, and Django. I also finished the course with various certificates.

Amateur radio and SWL

My story of how I got into amateur radio is very weird, but I’ll say it anyway :)

Some time in 2023 (when I was in the 8th grade in primary school) I decided to learn morse code. I didn’t really see much success in this goal, but I asked my godfather, if he knows any frequencies I can legally experiment with morse code (he is not a ham radio op, but knows somethinng about everything) and he sent me THIS WEBSITE. After reading it, I decided to study and get my amateur radio license. But I had a lot of questions, and didn’t really understand the things I was learning. So I asked the same godfather if he could buy me an RTLSDR v3 from Amazon, because I didn’t know how Amazon worked at the time. In 2 weeks it arrived and that is how I started my SDR and SWL hobby (Later, I got an SDRplay RSPdx for my 15th birthday😀). Later, I bought a big upgrade, an FM notch filter, LNA and a MLA30+ antenna. And that is how I moved to short wave radio. Meanwhile, when I didn’t have a SDR, I used to be a big fan of openwebrx, kiwisdr and basically WebSDR’s in general. I really liked the idea of WebSDR’s and I decided that I also wanted to be a part of this community, and this is how the OM1EPT WebSDR was born (called Patrik’s WebSDR at the time). But what about my ham radio studies?

At the start of the 9th grade at school, I also messaged a local radioclub here in Bratislava called OM3KFF - Radioclub OMEGA. They mentioned (Tomáš OM5AST) that they held a yearly ham radio course for newbies, and I decided that I also wanted to take a part in that. They explained everything, and I also got a LOOOOT experience working and transmitting from the club. I also remember my first QSO, that was under the callsign OM23YOTA :D.

One more thing, electronics!!!

According to my mom, I was born with a cable in my hand. While others played with trains, LEGOs and also got these things for their birthdays etc. I always played with extention cords, casette tapes, CD players, radios, basically if it used electricity, I LOVED IT. When I was around 8, I got my first soldering iron from my second Grandpa (RIP 😢) and also a christmas tree kit, and I don’t actually remember ever completing it. But the path was already set. When we moved into a village from a city, I had a garage and started tinkering more and more with electronics. I also got into the world of Raspberry PIs and Arduinos and I would never regret it. With years passing I got more and more experience, and in 2024 I started assembling my own custom circuits and making my own PCBs. I also have to mention a sad date, 24.12.2024 - When they closed the only electronics shop that sold electronics components at mass in Bratislava… But thankfully I already had A LOOOT of broken PCBs in my ewaste bin at home and a lot of electronics components to tinker around with, and thankfully one store that specalised in Arduinos and raspberry PIs also started selling individual components, so it is not that big of a deal now :)

And that is basically my life story :)
